COLYC Conservation Committee

Our conservation committee's mission is to promote and implement water conservation practices in Lake Michigan and surrounding harbors. We aim to protect the region's natural resources by educating the public, collaborating with other Columbia Yacht Club Committees and clubs to promote sustainable policies. We believe that responsible water use will help maintain a healthy ecosystem and ensure that resources are available for future generations.

• Green Boater Pledge Signup Competition: Take the pledge for greener boating and help Columbia Yacht Club lead the way! Participate in our friendly competition between yacht clubs in Chicago to see who can gather the most pledges for sustainable boating practices. • Clean Regattas: Join us as we lead the charge towards environmentally responsible sailing practices. Our Green Regattas initiative promotes sustainable regatta events that minimize environmental impact, from reducing waste to implementing eco-friendly race management practices.

• Garbage Cleanup Competition: Get ready to clean up and compete! Join us in the annual Garbage Cleanup Competition within Columbia Yacht Club, where boats and committees go head-to-head to collect the most marine debris and litter from our waterways. It's a fun way to make a positive impact on our local environment while fostering friendly competition among club members.

• Harbor/Beach Cleanup Days: Pitch in and make a difference! Join us for Harbor/Beach Cleanup Days where members come together to remove trash and debris from our local harbors and beaches. Together, we can keep our waterfronts clean and protect the habitats of local wildlife.

• Used Sail Collection: Give your old sails a new life! Bring your used sails to our collection drive, where we repurpose them for creative and sustainable projects. Whether it's crafting eco-friendly bags or upcycling sails into new sailcloth, your donation helps reduce waste and support innovative recycling efforts.
